Public school vs. homeschooling

Found a very good homeschool program for my kids, it would definitely advance them academically. They won't be deprived socially because I know groups for homeschoolers that meet several times a week for the field trips, etc.

Some public schools are not that bad, but, still, it's no guarantees it would be good for your kids. All you can do is trust that system and give them your kids, hoping for the best. I lost my trust in that system though. For example, my kids were trained to snitch on their friends which is disgusting, or, they can be stuck with a dumb teacher for the whole year. They get brainwashed a lot: my kids talk about Obama like he's God.
I think I don't like even the best of public schools...

All my friends and relatives tell me to send my kids to regular school because it's easier.
My kids are more into friends than studying, I think they like to go to school more to socialize and don't care about excessive learning.
But I've already received bunch of boxes with homeschool supplies and got excited about doing it myself, even though I won't have much time left for my personal activities.

Can't decide.
Opinions welcome.

Re: Public school vs. homeschooling

Re: Public school vs. homeschooling

There is a good network of homeschoolers in west LA with plenty of socializing.
I already have long-term friends with the same age kids who have good experience with that program.
The accredited teacher would work with us, we'll have to report ourselves daily, so, I won't have a chance to procrastinate.

You see, majority of people don't have any choice but send their kids to the public institution. I figured I can do better.

People try to talk me out of it.

I didn't have to work when my kids were sent to school, either.
But now I sometimes wonder if I should go save the planet from the global warming or smthng.

Can decide what's best.

I was thinking to do it for a year.
I applied for it because something was very wrong with the good school they had.
But now there is another good school that might take us in.
But what if my kids would benefit more from Me?

Re: Public school vs. homeschooling

Re: Public school vs. homeschooling

education is only one part of attending school... just as big is the notion of what world, country and society you want your kids to be successful in. the sooner they start facing real society in US the better chances they will adjust to it and more chances to success... although it sucks if society is full of snitches and brainwashing but hey... this is the country you raise them in and where they most likely will be living their lives...

Re: Public school vs. homeschooling

Re: Public school vs. homeschooling

Here is the exact sentence I saw in my daugter's textbook: "Parts of Africa are located in all four hemispheres".
I freaked out and ran to look at the map. Africa goes through 3 'chetveroshariya', and it's not as large continent as Eurasia or even just Asia.
I think the author of the schoolbook is an African American, so, the publisher is afraid to correct his geographical statements because it would be racist.

My girl is in 4th grade, my son is in 2nd. I do double duty, both programs. While one of them reads, I exlpain something to the other, then vice versa. Most of things are fun to do, even math, and especially science and arts. Music lessons crack me up.
It's all good, so far, except geographical facts.
We do hung out with other kids, do sports, museums, whatever we feel like.
We don't fall behind, I'm careful with that.
The teacher says we're fine, we get to see her only few times a year though.
