Hi!
I have F-1 status and I've been wondering if I can take the Real Estate Licence exam. I want to get a work visa because I speak 6 languages and there are so many real estate agents needed who speak for example Russian. But I would need to get the licence first. And is languages good enough reason for my future employer to apply for the visa?
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Evaliisa

Language by itself is probably not going to be sufficient for a H-1B visa, since the H-1B position requires that it be in a specialty occupation (one requiring at least a Bachelor's degree or its equivalent) AND that you possess that degree in a relevant field to the position. If you are currently in F-1 status, what is it you are studying and is it a degree-track course of study?
But I would think taking the exam is still a good idea, as it will give you options to consider.
Thanks,
Lana

You wont be able to get H1 B through real estate agent or broker occupation as there is nothing unique about ability to speak Russian. Here is what my friend (she is a real agent herself )was able to do- the company she was working for, signed her up as a head of marketing, although she was doing mortgages. Its all about company`s willingness to help you out

I would not suggest doing this, as it is improper and can seriously jeopardize one's immigration process.

Because an H-1B is for professionals in a "speciality position" which requires a salary it is unlikely that a real estate agent or brokers position would qualify because no salary is involved. The basic criteria for an H-1B is that the person have a university degree in a "professional field, such as engineering, computer science, accounting, architecture, certain types of marketing positions, etc. and be offered a position in that filed. So -- someone with a Ph.D. in computer science would not be able to have an H-1b approved as a hamburger maker for mcDonalds because the position is not one which requires education in a professional field.
