Does anyone know how to programmatically assign an IP address to the local machine in Visual Basic (through APIs or some other mechanism)?

If I understand your question correctly, I really don't think you can do this in Visual Basic. The best thing you can do is to make a system call to ifconfig (or whatever is its equivalent on your server)

You can do that through the Server Variables. But your question is to vague. Please try to be more specific.
