H1B Transfer

You should be in current H-1B status to apply for a transfer. Perhaps your former employer can keep you on the payroll or give you vacation. In that way you will remain in status. Another way is to apply to change to B-1 stauts in order to look for a new job. This will give you 6 months to find another employer. If yoou try it anyway now without proof that you are presently employed, INS may or may not make it difficult for you. There really is no grace period.
