Hello dear lawyers,

a friend of mine has asked this question:

[ he is a permanent resident Green Card holder, he came to the US a couple of times when he just got the GC. But many years after he stayed in his home country without coming to United States. ]

How he can possibly come back here? Is it I -191 form that he has to fill out?

Thank you very much!

To be honest I have never used I-191 for this purpose but after looking at it, it might be possible to use it. You friend might contact an American attorney in his country who can be delegated to approach the US Consulate to ask what the correct procedure is. II would not recommend he do it himself because his green card could be taken away). if you give me the country he is in I can probably give you the name and phone number of an attorney in that country who is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers' Association.

Hello Mr. Allan,

Thank you very much for your response!

That was my personal idea to fill I -191 :)
But of course, in his case it's best to go to an attorney (I wrote you his country, and if you know anyone there, please, let me know).
His GC has not expired yet. Do you think it is better for him to return (willl they let him in ?) and stay here, and go to a lawyer and fill all the necessary papers ?

Thank you!

If you e-mail me directly I will give you the name of an AILA attorney in your friend's country if there is one. My e-mail address is: allan.samson@sbcglobal.net
