There is still time for you to file your extension and pay your 2005 taxes without incurring late fees, penalties, service charges and interest.
In most states you can simply go to http://www.taxact.com/offers/free_taxact_online_ext.asp and click on Start Free Now. It will ask you a few questions, then you will specify how much you want them to pull out of your bank account and it will be all done! No fees charged of any kind for this great service! Assuming that you have paid enough to cover your 2005 tax liability, you will not have to file anything else until October - what a relief. This just saved me a 50 mile drive to an extended hours post ofiice. Hope it helps some others, as well!
P.S. There are additional websites listed on http://www.irs.gov/app/freeFile/jsp/index.jsp that provide free filing. However many of them (most notably TurboTax) will not handle electronic filing of extensions.
